So I don’t think we should deride what alternative medicine provides”What is important is for us to engage the practitioners so that we can use modern technology to ascertain the usefulness of what they are trying to give to the patient and in many ways you will be surprised that some of these things have some property which might not be antiviral or kill the virus but they might boost immunity. tag –> By AKINYI KULPosted Tuesday August 11 2009 at 19:49 THE PHARMACY AND PISNS Board recently issued an alert over suspect herbal remedies being used by a large number of people seeking alternative medicine. A casual look at the classified ads in newspapers attests to an alarming proliferation of herbal health practitioners with a ready market for their products. Yet herbal medicine is used for managing symptoms of colds flu malaria blood diseases skin conditions and even for controlling the spread of cancer. Clinics specialising in herbal products have been established in major towns offering cures for a myriad of conditions. Some practitioners even schedule countrywide tours to market their products and services at reduced costs in comparison with conventional medicine. Lack of documented use of herbal medicine inhibits planning for managing and regulating its practitioners.

tab a { color: #001369 !important; font-weight: bold !important;}. (AP) —pponents of a new Arkansas law that bans practitioners of alternative medicine from dispensing drugs or identifying themselves as doctors are asking a federal judge to declare the law unconstitutional. A federal lawsuit filed on behalf of a Texarkana practitioner of alternative medicine claims that the new law was motivated by competition and not concern for the public health. But lawmakers argue that it’s critical to forbid practitioners from administering injections or dispensing drugs because they don’t have medical degrees. The law took effect July 29. The plaintiff is seeking an injunction to keep Arkansas from enforcing the new law.

The problems which have not gotten very big attention are the debate of alternate healthcare the role of preventive medicine and the problem of racial discrimination. America has more lawsuits against the doctors than the rest of the world combined. Whereas millions of people are referred to the alternative healthcare in Europe most American physicians continue to believe that alternative medicine is voodoo medicine. The role of preventive healthcare is the least emphasized area in medicine. Racial discrimination in medicine is a fact of life. Not only the patients are discriminated but the minority healthcare providers also face discrimination. The insurance and pharmaceutical companies have some hard questions to answer.
